Onboarding Guide
The onboarding wizard gets a new organization from sign-in to first protection in three steps. This guide explains each step.
This page documents the current onboarding wizard. An earlier four-step first-run modal (Focus Areas, Organization Details with browser-surface selection, Guardrail Presets, Deployment) was retired — it no longer exists in the product. First-run guidance is now the three-step wizard below plus the data-derived Get started checklist on the overview dashboard.
Starting Onboarding
The wizard runs after you sign in with a new account. If you leave partway through, returning to onboarding drops you on the earliest unfinished step.
Depending on how you signed up, you may instead see:
- Create your organization — a short three-field page (organization name, optional email domain, optional seats estimate), reached from the overview checklist's Set up your organization task
- An automatic setup path for SSO sign-ups, which creates your organization and a starting Block PII policy for you
Step 1: Name your organization
Enter your Organization name. This is displayed throughout the dashboard.
Click Continue.
Step 2: Create your first policy
The wizard creates one starting policy — Block PII — and asks where it should apply.
Select the AI surfaces your team uses (all are selected by default):
- ChatGPT (chatgpt.com)
- Claude (claude.ai)
- Gemini (gemini.google.com)
- Microsoft Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com)
- Grok (grok.com)
Pick at least one surface so the policy has somewhere to apply, then click Continue.
These are the AI chat surfaces the extension monitors — not a browser selection. There is no browser-surface picker and no guardrail-preset choice in onboarding; the starting policy is fixed and you can adjust or add policies afterwards from the Policies page.
Enforcement Actions
Policies store one of three enforcement actions:

| Detect | Record the event and create an alert without blocking |
| Redact | Mask the matched content before the prompt is sent |
The onboarding policy is created as Block and enabled. See Configuring Policies for how these appear in the policy editor.
Step 3: Confirm your extension is connected
- Click Install the Chrome extension to open the Chrome Web Store listing
- Add the extension, then pin the extension to your toolbar
- Sign in to the extension with your work email
The wizard polls for the extension's first check-in and updates automatically once it connects. Finish with Finish and go to dashboard (or Go to dashboard once the extension is connected).
The Get Started Checklist
After onboarding, the overview dashboard shows a Get started card whose items are derived from live data — each one ticks itself when the underlying condition is true:

The card shows progress as "N of M tasks completed" and can be dismissed once your organization is active.
Exploring the Demo Environment
Before your own data arrives, you can preview the product with sample data:
- On the overview dashboard, click See it live — explore the demo environment
- A banner reads "You're viewing the Demo environment" while the preview is active
- Exit the preview at any time from that banner
The demo environment is a read-only preview — entering or leaving it does not move your account or affect your organization's data.

Troubleshooting
Extension not detected on Step 3
- Confirm the extension is installed and pinned
- Sign in to the extension with your work email
- The probe times out after about 30 seconds — you can finish onboarding and complete the install afterwards; the Get started checklist tracks it
An organization already exists for my domain
Sign-up creates a new organization for you. To join an existing organization instead, ask one of its administrators to invite you — see Inviting Users.
The optional Email domain field on the create-organization page is used to suggest your organization name and to help coworkers find each other later. It does not automatically merge you into an existing organization with the same domain.
